Assignment 5: Art & Fear

Creating art is simultaneously the most liberating and terrifying thing one could do. While its true that creating art is freeing because for the most part the rules are limited to the extent of what you can make, It can be terrifying for exactly the same reasons. For as long as I can remember I've always questioned the quality of my work, the difference between what I wanted to make and what was actually produced, and whether I qualified as an Artist to begin with. But more often than not, the fear of not creating was scarier than the thought of creating something sub par.

As I alluded to in previous entries, I view my work as not something that I made, but as something that lives in the void and chooses me to see it through. As Michelangelo famously said: “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set the angel free.” I not only owe it to myself to create but I owe it to the art itself.
