Raven's Notes: Magic and Anti-Magic Part 1

The story I am writing takes place in a world where magic exists, however it is extremely rare and heavily feared by the public. It has become such an issue that people discovered to have magic ability could be prosecuted and even executed merely for being who they are.

The magic talked about in the story acts in a very visceral way. It is heavily based on blood, akin to the the Midichlorians of "The Force" from Star Wars. This means that magic can be passed down hereditarily. Magic itself is infused in the blood, and the more saturated with magic the blood is, the more talented in magic the person is. Magic is a dominant trait, so if a person with magic in their blood has a child with someone who doesn't, at least a small fraction of the magic will find it's way into the child's blood. The rate in which magic is passed down is entirely random, however, which is why a child with apparent magical talent can be born from two seemingly non-magic parents. Magic can also be given through transfusion of blood.

Magical talent, just like any other talent, can be exercised and practiced. Without practice the magic casted can be very clumsy and have many unintended effects.
